George Badey
George Badey was
born and raised in south Philadelphia, the son of a longshoreman and a
homemaker. He resides in Radnor Township, Pa. He received a bachelor's degree
from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Villanova University.
Since passing the bar in 1982, Badey has been an attorney in private practice
focusing almost exclusively on personal injury litigation, including products
liability, workers' compensation and medical malpractice.
Since age 13, Badey
has been a member of the Mummers _ masked performers who hold a New Year's
parade sometimes described as Philadelphia's Mardi Gras. Badey plays the tenor
saxophone in the Fralinger String Band. When city budget cuts threatened the
century-old tradition in 2008, Badey led a fundraising drive that ultimately
garnered about $230,000, enabling the parade to be held on Jan. 1, 2009. Badey
also serves as attorney for the Mummers Association.
Badey is divorced
and has two sons. George Badey faced no opposition in the 2012 Democratic
primary for Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District. He will face Republican
Rep. Patrick Meehan in the general election. Badey described the 2012 Supreme
Court's decision to uphold the 2010 health care reform law "truly a win
for the American people." But he says more needs to be done to combat
rising health care costs without sacrificing quality of care.
